The Weekly Log - Children In Need

Friday 15th November 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we marked Armistice Day by making poppies in nursery. Creations included tissue paper poppies, painted poppies and coloured in poppies. On Tuesday we looked at Family Portraits and the children were encouraged to bring in pictures of their families and some painted a picture of them. We talked about what a family is and what the children enjoyed doing with their families. The park and beach were very popular! On Wednesday we made a family tree for every child. Children were able to decorate a tree and then we stuck pictures of their families on the branches. On Thursday we designed a house and put the children's families in the house. This was done by sticking photos in or…

The Weekly Log - Raising Money

Friday 8th November 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week the children have been raising money for Crackerjacks Children's Trust. The children wore pyjamas on Wednesday and everyone was very generous and we raised £81.70. Many thanks to everyone who contributed. It's always fun to dress up and we are all looking forward to Children in Need next week where children will have the opportunity to wear anything Pudsey related. Watch this space for more information on what The Learning Tree got up to to raise money for this excellent event. The children and staff are now looking to next week where we will be celebrating Armistice Day on Monday 11th November. We will be making Poppies to mark the occasion and we look forward to sharing with you…

The Weekly Log - Autumn

Friday 20th September 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been learning about Autumn. The weather may not have reflected autumn but we have been out collecting leaves and conkers and learning about different woodland creatures. The children have been busy painting their hands to represent the spikiness of a hedgehog. They have taken part in leaf printing and we have been concentrating on autumn colours. Children have been encouraged to take in their surroundings when playing in our garden and count how many leaves are falling off the trees. They then rushed around to collect as many as they could to give to the staff. We then made a beautiful display in our reception showing what autumn means to the children here at The Learning Tree. Next…

The Weekly Log - Learning through play

Friday 13th September 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week at The Learning Tree our youngest children have been learning through play. They have played together or on their own and have enjoyed learning what toy makes what noise. With the support of the staff the children explored by using touch, sight and sound. The children enjoyed music to move to and songs to clap along to. They have also enjoyed looking at themselves in mirrors which prompted the singing of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. A big hit with the children! Children change so much in the early years and we are so fortunate to be able to watch them grow and develop. We encourage children to be unique and we look forward to seeing them learn something…

The Weekly Log - Wrap-around service

Friday 6th September 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week at The Learning Tree, we began our wraparound service to local schools. On Monday our wraparound bus arrived. Who would be the first person to take it out on the road? I was the chosen one and so I set off on a test drive in the purple bus ( name chosen by the children!) From then on we have taken children to school and collected them and spent time meeting the teachers and learning all about school life. We are thoroughly enjoying this new venture so look out for the purple bus on the road! When you see us we will be heading to one of these schools, Glan Morfa Primary School, Tredegarville Primary School, St Josephs RC Primary School…

The Weekly Log - Goodbye

Friday 30th August 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week at The Learning Tree we have been saying goodbye to some of our pre-school children in preparation for their start in reception at school next week. In the pre-school room (known as Foxes), the children have enjoyed making animal handprint tiles as memory keepsakes with Room Manager Hayleigh. The children have taken these tiles home to show their families. All the children have enjoyed some final cuddles with all the staff and their friends as we say goodbye and wish them all the very best for their new adventures. We are very proud of all the children and will miss them all dearly. Every one of the staff would like to thank the parents and children for their lovely…

The Weekly Log - Graduation ceremony

Friday 23rd August 2019

On 20th August we held a Graduation ceremony for all our children who are leaving to go to school in September. All the children involved wore purple gowns and caps and were awarded with a certificate and a goody bag to prepare them for school. We invited all the parents and Grandparents to take a seat in our garden and enjoy the sunshine whilst they waited for the ceremony to begin. As 2.30pm approached Helen, the Nursery Manager gave a welcoming speech, thanking everyone for their support over the last few months. She spoke about how proud she was of the team and the children. At 2.30pm the children then came out all dressed in their gowns and they were called…
