We are a Foundation Phase Framework based nursery in the heart of Cardiff. We care for children from 3 months to 6 years old, and provide a range of age appropriate resources and activities to encourage their development right up until they are ready to start school.
Our philosophy is based on learning, creativity, and positivity. By blending indoor and outdoor classrooms in a home-away-from-home environment, we are able to create a space where children feel empowered and ready to learn.
The Learning Tree got its start in 2019, when owner Chris Baker took over the nursery his own children had attended after they announced they were closing down. Knowing that many parents relied on the nursery and nursery staff to take care of their children as they had his, Chris created The Learning Tree Day Nursery, to continue providing high quality care for the community.
We decided to do things a bit differently at The Learning Tree by creating a space which fosters early learning in a fun and safe environment where children from 3 months to 6 years can explore the world around them.
We believe our innovative approach gives children a bright and positive start in life as we encourage both exploration and discovery as well as emotional intelligence and building friendships.
When you visit us here at The Learning Tree, you’ll see firsthand what makes us different!
Our nursery has been purpose-built to ensure a secure, accessible space for children, with each room being specifically created for a different age group, offering them a space dedicated to their needs and development level.
There is also access to our nursery garden from every room, offering children a safe outdoor environment to learn and play in.
We provide Wrap-around Services, including drop off and pick up services to local schools to help support our families/
We are able to offer a wide variety of activities, including gardening, music, sport sessions and more.
Hedgehogs is our youngest room, specially built for infants. The space is neutrally decorated, offering a calm and soft space for the children. There are also lots of natural toys for children to begin to explore the world around them, including building blocks and wooden shapes, as well as sensory stimulation in the form of hanging decorations.
For our Squirrels, a light filled room combines quiet corners and soft furnishings with stimulating play areas which encourage children to play together, explore messy play, and create their own games with the toys provided.

Owls are supported in their learning and development in an open room, offering them various equipment, toys and learning material appropriate to their age. They are free to explore the room as they see fit, learning by experiencing different sections of the room, including the dress up corner, sand area, reading nook, and messy play.
Rabbits have a bright and stimulating room which encourages messy play, role play, and small world play. We encourage children at all ages to explore their creativity, using the environment around them to enhance their imaginative play and physical development.
Our Badgers nursery room is designed to support children’s natural interest in the world. Their intrigue is encouraged through imaginative small world play and the construction zone. As with our other rooms, there is a quiet corner which children can utilise for reading, developing their understanding of both English and Welsh.
Our oldest children are offered a variety of activities, ranging from role play, small world play, and messy play, to information technology and a book corner. They are encouraged to explore the world in a way that is meaningful to them and are supported by staff in their learning, to ensure they are confident in themselves and understand how to interact with those around them.

Accessible from every room, the nursery garden ensures the children have access to an outdoor space despite our central location. This allows the children to experience outdoor activities year-round, extending their learning from the indoor space.
All of our menus are fully prepared on site by our in-house Nursery Chef, and they are all NHS approved. We have a three week, rotating menu, which can be changed to accommodate any dietary requirements your child may have.
Fresh drinking water is available to the children at all times throughout the day and, upon joining the nursery, your child will receive their own personal water bottle which is labelled.
Please feel free to pop into our nursery and pick up a more detailed menu which includes allergen codes, along with our Weaning Menus for babies. If necessary, please discuss any requirements with our Nursery Manager upon your visit to the nursery.
We offer a variety of programs, including care for infants and toddlers, and preschoolers. We also provide flexible before and after school care, with drop off and pick up services to help support families further.
We believe that it’s never too early to start learning and that it’s vital to always present opportunities for children to learn and grow as soon as they start at our setting.
By developing our programs with curriculum experts and childcare specialists, we’ve been able to hone in on what makes early education a success and have created a learning program that allows our children to enter school seamlessly.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality childcare in Cardiff, if not the world!
As part of our commitment, we provide all of our children with:
Healthy chef-prepared meals each day that meet dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, vegan, etc.
