Our Grand Re-opening!

Friday 3rd July 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we opened our doors again and we have had a wonderful week. Our children have come in and settled so well. They have had to adapt to seeing staff in masks and our parents should be so proud of how well they have all done! I know that we are! We have made good use of our outside space and the children have loved our new garden. They have been learning about planting seeds as we have some new planters in the garden and we are looking forward to growing our own fruit and vegetables. We also wanted to thank all our parents who continue to support us and have accepted the changes that we have had to make here…

We have been very busy in Nursery recently supporting Bobath and Sports Relief. For Bobath we had a cake sale and raised over £170. Thank you to all our parents who baked and donated. We appreciate it very much. On Friday 13th March we supported Sports Relief by holding fun games and races in the garden. The children were asked to wear their joggers and/or sports kits and join in with the fun. You can see pictures on our Facebook page. This week we have been busy preparing for Mother's Day and so we all got creative and we all hope all the Mother's have a lovely day. At these uncertain times I would like to thank all our current parents for…

Pancakes, and Bears and St David's, Oh My!

Friday 28th February 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been celebrating Pancake Day. The children were able to add their own toppings which allowed discussions on textures and why they liked those toppings. What a fun day! On Thursday we celebrated International Polar Bear Day! I know, we didn't know it existed either! Anyway, the children created their own polar bears and we talked about the climate in which polar bears live and that it is very cold but the bears have lovely thick fur to keep them warm! We all learned a lot that day and all have a bigger appreciation for these wonderful animals. On Friday we began our St David's Day celebrations by wearing our rugby tops or anything red. We have a lovely…

Weekly Log - Ice Play

Friday 31st January 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week our Foxes group have been enjoying Ice Play. Their task was to get the animals out of the ice. This proved harder than it looked! We had all kinds of animals that needed saving and so we chipped away at the ice or waited for it to melt! This prompted questions on, What makes the ice melt? What is ice when it has melted? Is the ice warm or cold? We were then able to extend the activity to include a story about polar bears and igloos. Recently we made an igloo in Foxes which helped the children to understand about ice and cold and how people live or lived in colder countries. Our younger children have enjoyed…

Weekly Log - Chinese New Year

Monday 20th January 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year - the year of the Rat. In Chinese culture, rats were seen as a sign of wealth and surplus. Our children have been designing their own rats and for tea they experienced some Chinese food to ignite their taste buds! We are all getting excited here is work on our garden will be starting in March 2020. Watch this space to find out how the work is progressing. Our children really enjoy playing in the water and the sand and we encourage them with experiments. We look at how we can make something heavy by adding to it or something lighter by removing it. We use texture to encourage words that represent…

The Weekly Log - Animals & Igloos

Friday 17th January 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been feeling the chill and creating snowy pictures and playing games in our home made igloo. Our children have really enjoyed crawling into the Igloo and they have used it for reading stories, talking together or just sitting quietly. It is very important that children can have quiet time in the day should they want it and so creating areas for children is important in our planning of the nursery environment. These areas are for children to access throughout the day and so they can choose if they want to be quiet and still or busy and energetic. These areas also help to provide opportunities for children to make choices on where they want to play…

The Weekly Log - Celebrating Christmas

Monday 16th December 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been making Christmas stockings using glitter and paint. We have also created calendars for 2020 and paper cup snowmen. On Friday we cooked some delicious cupcakes. We also enjoyed our Christmas concert this week, where parents and extended family were invited to watch their children sing Christmas songs and enjoy some mince pies. The children were so good and sung like angels. We used hand bells for Jingle Bells and that proved a firm favourite. Our children were encouraged to wear Christmas jumpers/outfits and they all looked wonderful. On Friday we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day and our children did not disappoint. We had some lovely jumpers and outfits. Next week the staff and children will be…

The Weekly Log - World Nursery Rhyme Week

Friday 22nd November 2019
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week the nursery has celebrated World Nursery Rhyme Week. This has been a wonderful week for the children as they love singing and learning new songs. Activities have included creating shapes with playdough to match the playdough mats. We have also made spider puppets and finger puppets. The children have coloured lots of pictures of their favourite nursery rhyme too. On Thursday we made origami boats. The children were then able to put the boats into the water to see if they floated or sunk. This encouraged the children and the staff to share ideas on what else they thought would sink or float in the water. Children love experiments and at The Learning Tree we encourage all our children…

Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we marked Armistice Day by making poppies in nursery. Creations included tissue paper poppies, painted poppies and coloured in poppies. On Tuesday we looked at Family Portraits and the children were encouraged to bring in pictures of their families and some painted a picture of them. We talked about what a family is and what the children enjoyed doing with their families. The park and beach were very popular! On Wednesday we made a family tree for every child. Children were able to decorate a tree and then we stuck pictures of their families on the branches. On Thursday we designed a house and put the children's families in the house. This was done by sticking photos in or…
