Friday 18th September 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been enjoying the sunshine and have been outside digging and using the soil for a treasure hunt. The children have loved burying objects in the soil and asking their friends to look for them. We also wore jeans on Friday to support Jeans for Genes Day. Thank you to all who donated to this cause. Next week is recycling week and we going to be creating our own artwork using recyclable materials. Please click on the link to learn more about recycling week - http://www.wrap.org.uk. We are proud to support this year as it recognises the work that has carried on during this pandemic.

The Weekly Log - Watching Them Grow

Friday 11th September 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week the children have been planting seeds in our garden. We are growing Kale, Marigolds and Chrysanthemums. This has been an excellent learning opportunity for the children as they have learnt about how things grow and what you have to do to make things grow. Every day the children will have an opportunity to water the seeds and then we will watch them grow and develop into beautiful flowers and leaves. We are looking forward to celebrating Roald Dahl day on Monday so come back next week and see the photos of the children dressed up and the fun that we have had with our very own golden tickets!

Pancakes, and Bears and St David's, Oh My!

Friday 28th February 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been celebrating Pancake Day. The children were able to add their own toppings which allowed discussions on textures and why they liked those toppings. What a fun day! On Thursday we celebrated International Polar Bear Day! I know, we didn't know it existed either! Anyway, the children created their own polar bears and we talked about the climate in which polar bears live and that it is very cold but the bears have lovely thick fur to keep them warm! We all learned a lot that day and all have a bigger appreciation for these wonderful animals. On Friday we began our St David's Day celebrations by wearing our rugby tops or anything red. We have a lovely…

Weekly Log - Ice Play

Friday 31st January 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week our Foxes group have been enjoying Ice Play. Their task was to get the animals out of the ice. This proved harder than it looked! We had all kinds of animals that needed saving and so we chipped away at the ice or waited for it to melt! This prompted questions on, What makes the ice melt? What is ice when it has melted? Is the ice warm or cold? We were then able to extend the activity to include a story about polar bears and igloos. Recently we made an igloo in Foxes which helped the children to understand about ice and cold and how people live or lived in colder countries. Our younger children have enjoyed…

Weekly Log - Chinese New Year

Monday 20th January 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year - the year of the Rat. In Chinese culture, rats were seen as a sign of wealth and surplus. Our children have been designing their own rats and for tea they experienced some Chinese food to ignite their taste buds! We are all getting excited here is work on our garden will be starting in March 2020. Watch this space to find out how the work is progressing. Our children really enjoy playing in the water and the sand and we encourage them with experiments. We look at how we can make something heavy by adding to it or something lighter by removing it. We use texture to encourage words that represent…

The Weekly Log - Animals & Igloos

Friday 17th January 2020
Helen - Nursery Manager

This week we have been feeling the chill and creating snowy pictures and playing games in our home made igloo. Our children have really enjoyed crawling into the Igloo and they have used it for reading stories, talking together or just sitting quietly. It is very important that children can have quiet time in the day should they want it and so creating areas for children is important in our planning of the nursery environment. These areas are for children to access throughout the day and so they can choose if they want to be quiet and still or busy and energetic. These areas also help to provide opportunities for children to make choices on where they want to play…
